The Allen Community College cross country season will kick off with a festive atmosphere Friday, with the team’s second annual Red vs. Black intra-squad scrimmage.
“Think of this as a ‘midnight madness’ for a cross country team,” ACC head coach Vince DeGrado said. “Expectations are at an all-time high for this year’s teams.”
The festivities kick off at about 5:30 p.m. at the Riverside Park football stadium and track. The runners will split into two teams, red and black, then race along a portion of the new Southwind Trail.
The route will wind up at the football stadium.
Unofficial times and scores will be recorded. The runners will go two miles.
The ACC men are the defending Jayhawk East champions, while the Allen women took second in the conference in 2012, a scant two points behind conference champion Johnson County.
Both Red Devil teams finished second among all Region VI schools.
