ACC softball earns first win

FORT WORTH, Texas — Allen Community College’s softball team went 1-4 at the Cowtown Class this weekend.
On Friday, the Red Devils lost to Des Moines Area CC 10-0 and El Paso CC 7-4.
Against Des Moines, Allen mustered only one hit, a single by Cheyanne Daniels. Des Moines’ April Brown pitched five shutout innings with 14 strikeouts.
The Red Devil offense heated up in its game against El Paso, but couldn’t quite make a comeback. El Paso started with a 2-0 lead and took a 5-0 lead after a three-run third inning.
Allen answered with a three-run third. Ashley Womack had an RBI-single, then Daniels hit in two on a single of her own. In the fourth, Shelby Maycumber hit a sacrifice fly to get the game to 5-4.
That’s as close at it got. El Paso added two insurance runs in the seventh.
Cassidy Reynolds, Tristyn Delgado, Justine Dougan and Daniels each had a single. Womack went 2-for-3, with a double.

ON SATURDAY, the Red Devils got their first win of the season.
Allen started the day with two losses. In their fist game, they lost to Northern Oklahoma State 8-7. Allen had a 5-0 lead after the third inning, but Northern Oklahoma scored seven runs between the fourth and sixth frames.
Allen tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the seventh. Womack hit in Emmy McManigal to tie the game. But, Northern Oklahoma hit in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Womack went 2-for-3, including a three-run homer in the fifth inning. She accounted for four RBIs. Baileigh Rager went 3-for-3 and scored a run. Reynolds, Maycumber and Alana Renshaw each had a single. Kayla Bourgeois had an RBI.
Allen lost to Laredo 3-2 in the second game Saturday. Bourgeois scored an RBI-single in the first to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead. Daniels hit an RBI-single in the third that gave Allen a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Laredo scored two runs to get the win.
Allen won its final game of the weekend 5-3 against Vernon College of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Maycumber gave the Red Devils a 1-0 lead with an RBI-single in the third inning. Womack hit a sacrifice in the fourth inning that scored a run to extend the lead to 2-0. Daniels had an RBI-single and Rager hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to give ACC a 4-0 lead after the fifth.
Vernon answered with a three-run sixth inning. Allen got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI-single by Renshaw. Allen held on to win 5-3.
Daniels was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Womack and Rager each had a double. Reynolds, Maycumber and Renshaw each had a single. Delgado went 2-for-3 with two singles and a run scored.
Allen (1-6) plays at Ottawa on Thursday.
