With just a handful of games left on the schedule, the Allen Red Devils are likely a longshot for the postseason.
The Red Devils continue looking for their first Jayhawk Conference win after falling to Kansas City Kansas Community College 4-1 while hosting the Blue Devils Saturday.
“We deserved to win, but this game is unforgiving,” Allen coach Jeremy McGinnis said. “We had possession of the ball, more shots on goal, we were in the attack a lot. It just wasn’t our day. It seems to be that way lately and I’m hoping things will turn around.”
The Red Devils (5-7-1, 0-6) jumped out to an early lead on KCKCC (12-2-1, 6-1). At the 22-minute mark, freshman center midfielder Karah Cooper found the back of the net on a pass from freshman centerback Leandra Sherifi. The Blue Devils responded with four unanswered goals — sweeping the series.
“You can’t continuously work this hard and do the work they’re doing without having something good come from it,” McGinnis said. “I know it’s coming. I hope it’s really soon. It’s pretty late in the game and we have to win the next three to be in the playoffs.”
The Red Devils look to return to the win column when they travel to Pratt Community College Saturday, then wrap up the regular season hosting Highland Community College and Pratt Wednesday, Oct. 22 and Saturday, Oct. 25.
“We’re right there. They always bring it at practice. They have a great work rate and with that being the basis we’ll figure it out.”
