Allen County Community College’s golf team may be in a holding pattern today. The NJCAA Region VI, Division II golf tournament was scheduled to start today at Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg.
No word on the 54-hole tournament but the rains may affect play, which is supposed to be today and Tuesday.
Allen County is three-time defending Region VI, Division II champion. Sophomore Rob Carlson is the defending regional tournament champion.
Carlson just missed earning Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference honors at last week’s KJCCC Championships. He finished 12th  with a 238 (76-83-79) but one hole hurt his conference chances.
“Rob played very well all three rounds with exception of hole No. 10  during the second round. He took an 11,” said Mike Hayes, ACCC golf coach.
“It was the most difficult hole we played. Even a bogey or double bogey would have allowed him to make all-conference second team.”
The conference championship tournament was played at Sand Creek golf course in Newton.
“We had very difficult weather conditions again. As a team we putted very poorly and did not score nearly as well as the previous tournaments,” said Hayes.
The Red Devils finished eighth in the tournament with a combined team score of 1,022. Hutchinson, which won the overall conference championship, won the final tournament of the season with a 915.
Dodge City shot a 919 as a team for second followed by Kansas City, Kan., at 944, Johnson County at 955, Coffeyville at 991, Independence at 994 and Barton County at 1,011. Colby was ninth at 1,030.
Chien Hau Tan won the individual title with a 223 and his Dodge City teammate Alex Tiong was second with a 228. Tiong took top overall conference honors with Tan in second place.
In the KJCCC Championship tournament, ACCC’s Tim Stinnett was 35th with a 259 (88-85-86) and Casey Bettis was 36th, shooting a 260 (87-90-83). Tyler Roth finished 41st carding a 268 total (87-88-93) and Chase Tjelmeland was 42nd  with a 271 (91-89-91).
