HIGHLAND — Two runs in the first inning stood up for Allen County Community College’s softball team Tuesday. The Red Devils beat NJCAA Division II ninth-ranked Highland Community College 2-0.
Lenzie Boring limited the Scotties to three hits while recording 10 strikeouts for the win.
Jenna Sigg and Boring each had a double. Jori Graf, Kylie Taylor and Denise Swanson each had a single.
Kelci Owens walked to lead off the first inning. Graf had a sacrifice bunt and Callie Umholtz grounded out. Sigg doubled in a run and scored on a single by Taylor. That was it for the scoring.
Two runs were not enough in the second game. The Scotties won 8-2 using four home runs along the way.
Alex Hill pitched four innings, giving up seven runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts. Boring pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits and had six strikeouts.
Sigg had a single and a double and Owens hit two signles. Tesla Allison had a double. Hitting a single each were Graf, Umholtz, Taylor, Boring and Kayla Johnston.
Allen County is 12-8 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play, 16-8 in Region VI action and 30-14 overall.
