The Red Devils will host Seward County in the first round of the Region VI playoffs. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. in the Allen gymnasium.
Allen’s 7-11 record in Region VI’s Eastern Division was good enough for fourth place. The Red Devils will host Seward County, whose 10-6 record puts them in fifth place in Region VI Western Division.
On the men’s side, the Red Devils will take their 6-24 overall record (2-16 in Region VI) on the road to Great Bend to face Barton County (25-5, 12-4).
Their game begins at 3 p.m.
Both of Allen’s teams ended the regular season on a losing note.
The Red Devil women dropped an 85-40 decision Wednesday to Johnson County, the top-ranked NJCAA Division II school in the country.
The Cavaliers led 46-27 at halftime and outscored Allen 39-13 after intermission.
Jamie Peel led Allen with 14 points, followed by Brittney Redmond with 11 and Kendra Taiclet with 10.
Johnson County shot 51 percent, compared to Allen’s 22 percent, and out-rebounded the Red Devils 56 to 24.
Dashawn Harden led a quartet of Cavalier players with 15 points.
THE RED Devil men dropped a 58-57 decision to Johnson County.
“We had a poor performance in the first half, with no intensity on either end of the court,” head coach Andy Shaw said.
The Red Devils trailed 34-23.
Allen picked up its play after halftime, cutting the lead to three before Johnson County extended its advantage to eight with just under two minutes left.
Missed free throws led to the final Red Devil comeback.
The Red Devils cut the gap to three, and Cameron Blue’s layup with seconds remaining put Allen within one, but time ran out before they could foul again.
DeAndrae Barnette led the Red Devils with 16 points. Andrew Rountree followed with 15 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.
Blue, in his first game back after an extended layoff because of illness, wound up with eight points. Ce’Zanne Burnes dished out four assists. Alex Keiswetter had three assists.
