Uniontown High’s Eagles pushed their record to 23-2 with Three Rivers League wins over Crest and host Pleasanton Tuesday.
“The girls did a good job playing our game,” said Jackie Hall, Eagle head coach of the Class 3A fifth-ranked team. “We are seeing improvement on our coverages and communication.”
The Eagles beat Crest High’s Lady Lancers 25-11, 25-3. Jessie Camac served for nine points for Uniontown. Jacy Ermel pounded down 10 kills while Tayler Shook had 16 set assists.
Uniontown defeated Pleasanton 25-9, 25-9 as Shook served up 13 points and had seven set assists. Lauren Rockhold also had seven assists.
Ermel delivered five kills at the net. Jessica Harrison and Hayden Rathbun each had two kills.
No report was available from Crest on the matches.
In junior varsity, Uniontown beat Crest 25-15, 25-9 with Hope Jurgensen serving 12 points and having one kill. Megan Schnichels had two kills.
The Eagles beat Pleasanton 25-11, 25-9. Amber Bartlett served 11 points while Taylor Wade had 10 service points and two kills.
Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats traveled to St. Paul in TRL action Tuesday. They ended up going 1-1 on the night and are 8-16 overall.
The Wildcats decked Altoona-Midway 25-16, 25-18. Maggie Meiwes had nine kills, Cheyanne Miller had three kills and Kayla McNutt had two kills. Kailey Boyd came up with eight digs and served six aces.
Miller and McNutt each served three aces. Kacie Shadden came up with 16 digs while Miller had 13 digs.
St. Paul got past Marmaton Valley 25-18, 28-30, 25-19. Molly McEwan handled 26 set assists for the two matches. Lydia Lance had 14 assists.
“The St. Paul crowd got its money’s worth. We played well in both matches and the St. Paul one was a tough loss,” said Lindsay Ermel, MVHS head coach.
“As a coach you love and hate matches like that. You love them because you can see the girls becoming a team and working together when the match is that close. You hate them because it is so nerve racking.”
Against St. Paul Meiwes put down 11 kills, had five digs and three service aces. Miller had three kills, 18 digs and two aces. Morgan Owens had five kills and Kaitlin Ensminger had five kills and two aces.
Shadden, playing in the libero position, had 21 digs. Boyd had 14 digs and one kill.
Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs hosted Caney Valley and Neodesha in Tri-Valley play Tuesday. The Lady Cubs got a split decision to go 2-2 in league play and 8-4 overall.
“Due to injury, our coverage was different. It took awhile to settle in but the girls got the job done against Caney,” said Stephanie Splechter, Lady Cub head coach.
“Missed serves — nine —kept us from getting a run going and out of the match with Neodesha.
Humboldt defeated Caney Valley 25-20, 25-22. Melissa Davidson delivered 10 kills and four blocks at the net and served three aces. Brandi Malloy had five kills. Amanda Maxton had nine set assists.
Neodesha downed Humboldt 25-15, 25-19. Davidson connected for seven kills and put up five blocks. Malloy had three kills and Maxton had four assists.
Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans liked playing at home Tuesday. They beat Flinthills 25-11, 25-22 and Madison 25-23, 25-19 in Lyon County League play.
The Lady Titans improved to 15-9 overall and 3-2 in LCL play.
Against Flinthills, Sam Jacob and Kristin Stephens had four kills each. Keasha Parks had eight set assists.
In the Madison match, Sarah Webb put down eight kills while Ashton Isch, Jacob and Stephens each had six kills. Brooke Scheele had 12 assists and Parks had nine assists.
The Lady Titans join Marmaton Valley, Yates Center (3-19), and Crest in playing in Saturday’s Uniontown High Invitational.
