The 2016 season proved to be a banner season for the Iola Mustangs football program. They qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
“The team regained the respect that we had our first two years in the league,” Iola coach Doug Kerr said. “I’m looking forward to what is in store in 2017.”
The success that the Mustangs experienced was rewarded with 13 players making the All-Pioneer League teams.
The Mustang unit that commanded the most respect among Pioneer League coaches was the defense where three seniors earned a spot on the first team.
First-team linebacker Chase Regehr led the Mustangs in tackles for a second-straight season.
