Since he was going to Coffeyville Community College already, Iola High senior Seth Browning took the initiative in contacting the CCC track coach.
“I e-mailed the track coach and it started from there,” Browning said after he accepted a scholarship offer from Coffeyville to run track and field.
He signed the letter of intent earlier in the Iola High spring track season.
Browning is Iola’s top 800-meter runner. He has run the 800 in 2 minute, 3 seconds this year but also has turned in several 2:01 split times running on Iola’s 4×800-meter relay. Browning, who has been on the relay two years, helped the Mustangs win a fourth consecutive 4×800 Southeast Kansas League champion-ship last week.
Browning also runs a 51.9-second 400 meters. Iola High track head coach Marvin Smith said Browning has shown promise in the 300 — 400-meter hurdles in college — intermediate hurdles.
“I hope to help Coffeyville with their 4×800 relay and the 4×400 relay. They have good ones there and both are going to nationals this season,” Browning said.
Browning is enrolling in the electrial power technology course at CCC to be-come an electrial lineman. The technical program is in conjuction with Pratt Community College.
He is the son of Tim and Cinnamon Genoble of Iola.
