Burton’s big night nets Player of the Week honor

Carter Burton had over 300 rushing yards last week to lead the area.

Congratulations to last week’s player of the week, Marmaton Valley running back Quincy Adams. There were some great performances Friday night. Carter Burton took the top spot this week after going over 300 yards. 

Player of the Week

Yates Center running back Carter Burton

Burton ran for 302 yards and four touchdowns to lead Yates Center in a 88-52 win over Marmaton Valley. Burton also threw a pass for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback of the Week:

Marmaton Valley quarterback Garrett Henderson 

Henderson threw the ball all over the yard in a 88-52 loss to Yates Center. Henderson completed 15 passes for 244 yards and five touchdowns. Henderson also ran for 66 yards.

Running Back of the Week:

Crest running back Holden Barker

Barker ran for 175 yards and three touchdowns in a 52-6 win over Southern Coffey County. Heading into the regular-season finale for Crest, Barker needs 331 yards to go over 2,000 for the season.

Wide Receiver of the Week:

Iola wide receiver Brett Willis 

Willis was the bright spot in the Mustangs’ 42-6 loss to Girard. Willis caught two passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.

Defensive standout of the Week:

Yates Center defensive tackle Jayston Rice 

Rice was all over the field in Yates Center’s win over Marmaton Valley. Rice made 23 tackles, with five tackles for loss and a sack to keep the Marmaton Valley offense in check.

Honorable Mention:

Yates Center linebacker Shane Weber: 12 tackles, seven tackles for loss, fumble recovery against Yates Center.

Crest running back Avery Blaufuss: 34 yards, two touchdowns against Southern Coffey County.

Iola quarterback Landon Weide: 143 yards, touchdown against Girard.
