ARKANSAS CITY — Allen Community College’s eight-game winning streak came to an abrupt halt Thursday.
The Red Devil baseball team was done in by Cowley’s pitchers and big innings by the Tiger batters in 11-1 and 13-1 losses.
The defeats came in the first two games of a four-game series. The teams are at Allen Saturday afternoon to complete the series.
Cowley dinged ACC starting pitcher Logan MacNeil for three runs in the first before the Red Devil hurler settled down from there over the next three innings. MacNeil gave up two hits with four strikeouts over four innings.
But Cowley erupted for eight against a pair of ACC relievers, aided by three walks and four hits to seal the win.
Allen’s Beau Brown smacked a solo home run in the top of the third for Allen’s only offense. Nathan Bach supplied ACC’s other hit.
Allen’s pitchers struggled with control in the nightcap, combining for nine walks as the Tigers scored in each of its six innings, including a seven-run second.
Luke Carter, Sawyer Rolland and Joel Robinson combined to give up nine hits with four strikeouts.
That came after Levi Bennett staked the Red Devils to a 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run in the top of the first.
Bach doubled with one out in the top of the fourth, Sean Gomez Jr. followed with a walk, but a strikeout and line out ended the threat.
Bach had two doubles to lead the ACC offense. His three hits on the day are part of his white-hot start to the season. He’s hitting .500 with 16 RBIs over his first 12 games.
