Cubs go 1-1 at home

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Cubs hit two home runs and lost the game Monday.
Caleb Vanatta hit a three-run home run in the third and Nick Wiltse cranked out a two-run shot in the seventh. Still, Humboldt lost to visiting Eureka High’s Tornadoes 7-5.
The Cub defense committed five errors, helping the Tornadoes along the way. Alex Murrow pitched five innings and was charged with seven runs on eight hits and one  walk. He struck out four.
Vanatta threw two hitless and scoreless innings. He walked one and struck out two.
Vanatta also had a double in the game. Caleb D’Armond and Christian Wiltse each hit a double. Nathan Whitcomb and A. Murrow had a single each.
In the second game of the Tri-Valley League doubleheader, the Cubs used a 14-hit attack to run-rule Eureka 15-0 in three innings.
Grayson Pearish was efficent on the mound, throwing 27 pitches and giving up just three his in three innings.
N. Wiltse had another home run in the second game. Hunter Murrow connected for three base hits. Seth Nickell hit two doubles.
Whitcomb, Vanatta and A. Murrow each had two singles. D’Armond and C. Wiltse had a single each.
The Cubs host Yates Center today.
