Driskel earns league honor

Iola High’s Emery Driskel earned second-team honors for the 2012 Pioneer League all-league volleyball team.
The all-league teams were announced Friday.
Driskel is a 5-9 sophomore, one of only two 10th-graders to earn all-league honors this season. She was the only Iolan recognized. Iola finished 2-8 in Pioneer League, good for fifth place overall, and 6-31 overall.
Unofficially, Driskel registered 126 kills on the season, or 3.4 a game.
First-teamers were Jamie Mersman and Annsley Graham, seniors from Anderson County, Tayler Soucie, senior from Osawatomie, Emily Feldman, senior from Prairie View, and Ashley Sparks, a sophomore, Darcy Bonzo, a senior, and Ashely Ebeck, a junior, all from Wellsville. Ebeck was the first team libero.
Joining Driskel on the second team were Britton Brownrigg, senior from Anderson County, Kenzie Hayward, junior from Central Heights, Tess Newport, senior, and Marley Murrow, junior, both of Osawatomie, and Brittney Diehm, junior from Prairie View.
Osawatomie won the 2012 Pioneer League crown with a 9-1 record, one game better than Anderson County.
