UNIONTOWN – One coach saw his players do what they needed to win. One coach recognized the improvements his team is making even in loss Friday night.
“We are seeing great strides and improvements. The girls play with heart and effort,” said Daniel Buller, who took over as head coach for Crest High’s girls over Christmas break.
Uniontown High’s Eagles gave their homecoming crowd what it wanted – a 46-21 victory. The Eagles got to a 20-9 halftime lad and cruised the second half over the Lady Lancers.
“It wasn’t real pretty but the girls did what they needed to do,” said Ken Holt, Uniontown head coach, as the Eagles moved to 3-1 in Three Rivers League play and improved to 8-6 overall.
The Lady Lancers are 2-2 in league play and 2-10 overall.
“We played very well defensively giving up very few easy shots,” Buller said. “Offensively, our shots were not falling.”
Uniontown was led by Hope Jurgensen with 10 points and three steals. The Eagles’ Hayden Rathbun had eight rebounds and Tayler Shook dished out six assists.
The Eagles were 21 of 65, 32 percent, from the field while the Lady Lancers struggled at 20 percent, 9 of 44. Crest went 3 of 12 at the free-throw line and the Eagles hit 3 of 7.
Crest got six points each from Emily Frank and Erica Holman.
The Eagles host Chetopa in TRL play Tuesday. The Lady Lancers have a home non-league contest with Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans.
