UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s Eagle girls had no problem in winning their fifth and sixth games of the season Monday.
The Eagles dominated play against visiting Tyro Christian. They won 10-0 and 11-1, both games only going five innings.
“Because Tyro Christian wasn’t scoring, we were able to insert all of the junior varsity ball players into the lineup of both games,” said Alan Shinn, UHS head coach.
“Tayler Shook and Ithaca Marlier pitched well. Our defense made plays. Tiffany Poyner made a diving stop on a grounder at second base and threw to first while she was laying on her back without looking. That was our web gem of the day.”
A seven-run second inning put the Eagles on track to win the first game. Shook allowed two hits, walked three, hit two batters and struck out seven.
Rayma Ridge doubled and hit two singles for the Eagles. Hitting a single each were Shook, Hope Jurgensen, Audrey Dixon, Marlier and Veronica Harrison.
Both Tyro Christian and Uniontown scored a run in the first inning of the second game. Uniontown added a run in the second then scored four in the third to pull away.
Marlier walked three and struck out four but did not give up a hit. Uniontown had 10 hits.
Poyner and Cassie Schwalm had two singles apiece. Hitting a single each were Shook, Jurgensen, Harrison, Candice Clayton, Raylene Crystal and Brooke Murrow.
Uniontown is 6-1 overall. The Eagles play Central Heights Thursday and Jayhawk-Linn Friday, both at Uniontown.
