COLONY — The Crest High Lancers football team fell to 1-2 on the season Friday night at the hands of the Lawrence Veritas Eagles 60-14.
“When you play the game of football, you have to play with some emotion,” said Brent Smith, Lancer head coach. “I thought we were pretty flat tonight.”
The Eagles scored 28 points before the Lancers were able to muster the first of two touchdowns. The first Crest score came off a 26-yard pass from quarterback Kyle Hammond to Jordan Morton with 6:35 remaining in the second quarter.
The Eagles put another 18 points on the board before Hammond ran a 45-yard burst into the end zone, making the score 46-12. Hammond added two more points with a successful conversion run.
Leading the Lancers’ defense were Hammond, 11 tackles, and Morton, who had 2 tackles and as many interceptions.
“We have to go back to practice Monday and work on doing our jobs all the time. We have to learn to be physical and play the game of football. It’s a fun game if we do it right.”
Next week Crest will host the Madison High Bulldogs.
