Jayhawk-Linn High’s Jayhawks managed the strong wind and Iola’s Cedarbrook Golf Course better than the other teams at Thursday’s Marmaton Valley High Invitational.
The MVHS tournament was postponed last week and moved to the Iola golf course. Only four teams made it back to the rescheduled event.
Jayhawk-Linn posted a 351 four-man total to win. Pleasanton was second at 357.
Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats shot a 433 for third place. Uniontown High’s Eagles used some junior varsity players to fill out a team and shot a 444.
Uniontown’s Justin Query claimed the fifth-place medal. Query shot a 90 with rounds of 43 and 47.
Pleasanton’s Joey Morrisey shot an 80 to take top medalist honors.
The next three places were filled by Jayhawk-Linn golfers — Garrett Lowe, 83, Alex Clark, 87, Jayden Proffitt 89. Trevor Connor of JHLH shot a 92 for sixth.
Dalton Houk earned the ninth-place medal for Marmaton Valley. Houk shot a 98 (51-47). James Allison had a 100 (52-48) for 11th place.
Other scores for Marmaton Valley were: Will Nunnery, 116 (58-58); Dillon Yeager, 119 (61-58); Ben Smith, 119 (54-65); Dillon Hall, 124 (58-66).
“Since the field was small, we brought some of our junior varsity golfers to get them some experience playing an 18-hole tournament,” said Jason Tourtillott, Uniontown coach. “I thought as windy as it was that Justin’s 90 was a pretty good score.”
Other Uniontown scores were: Chance Hoener, 113 (57-56), Cole George, 119 (63-56); Brittan Esslinger, 122 (59-63); Seth Bartlet, 137 (69-68); Reed Gleason, 137 (67-70).
