Iola eighth-grade volleyball split on the road at Osawatomie on Monday with the A-Team falling in three sets while the B-Team won in four sets.
The A-Team lost 25-18, 25-22 and 25-21 while the B-Team won 20-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-20.
For the A-Team, Caiden Cloud and Dallyn McGraw led in serving with three aces each. McGraw also had a kill.
Aysha Houk had three kills and two aces and Khloeigh Shafer had three assists and a kill. Cali Riley had an ace and two kills while Carly Dreher had an ace and Louise Caron had a kill.
“We played great at times in this match,” head coach Terri Carlin said. “We need to work on either getting some hard hits to end a play or find open spots on the other side of the net so we can score. Even though we didn’t come away with the win, I am still proud of these girls. They have positive attitudes and work hard. They have come a long way since the first day of practice and continue to work hard every day.”
After dropping set one, the B-Team found its rhythm and started rolling, winning the final three games.
Abi Hirt led the Ponies with 13 aces and Cloud had seven to go along with two kills and two assists.
Emma McCormack had four kills and Madison Robertson had an ace.
Dreher and Macie Hoag each had five aces and a kill. Hoag also had an assist.
Jadyn Kaufman had a kill and Celina Caron had three aces.
The Ponies will host Pittsburg on Thursday.
