Fawson, Allen finish third at Neodesha

NEODESHA — The Mustangs tennis teams’ leaders continued their stellar starts to the season on Saturday.
Singles players Isaiah Fawson and Rhett Allen each finished the Neodesha Tournament in third place individually with 2-1 records.
They each lost to Maranatha players with Allen falling to Aaron Bowlin and Fawson losing to Daniel Siemers. Fawson beat Independence’s Logan Payne, 8-6, and Coffeyville’s Jeff Solis, 8-1, to finish third in the No. 1 singles bracket. Allen knocked off Independence’s Brock O’Malley, 8-0, and Neodesha’s Brett Dick-Wolfe. 8-0, to take third in the No. 2 singles bracket.
Pool-play was slanted heavily against the Pool B  teams (Iola, Independence and Maranatha) who went undefeated in all singles and doubles matches that they faced the Pool A teams (Neodesha, Coffeyville and Immaculata).
In doubles-play, the No. 1 duo of Jon Miller and Brett Plumlee and the No. 2 pairing of Elijah Fawson and Adryan Nading also dealt with the tougher pool-play rounds.
They each lost to the doubles teams from Independence and Maranatha, but responded to win their fifth-place matches.
Miller and Plumlee beat Coffeyville’s Adrian Engaldo and Chris Ewy. Fawson and Nading beat Neodesha’s Wyatt Perry and Eian Eytcheson.
