Iola High’s junior varsity volleyball squad started the season at Independence Tuesday night. The team lost to Fort Scott 22-25, 21-25; beat Columbus 25-16, 25-7; and lost to Independence 15-25, 12-25.
The JV team next plays on Saturday, when it hosts the junior varsity Iola Invitational at 8:30 a.m.
The freshmen traveled to Labette County Tuesday night for the team’s first matches of the season.
Iola beat Labette County in three sets. The Fillies lost the first set 18-25, then came back to win 25-13 and 15-13 in the tiebreaker.
The team beat Parsons 25-16, 25-20 and Chanute 25-23, 25-11.
Leading servers included Colbi Riley, Madi Carlin, Sophi Whitney and Chloe Gardner. Riley, Karley McGuffin and Katie Bauer lead the team in kills. Madi Carlin lead the team with assists.
The freshmen Fillies will next play Sept. 9 at Coffeyville.
