The Fillies’ freshmen struggled in their home tournament on Saturday.
The Fillies finished sixth in the six-team field with one set victory in the tournament when they split sets with Burlington to finish 0-4-1 on the day.
Iola’s set win over Burlington was something for the young Fillies to build on as they emerged with a hard-fought 26-24 victory.
Iola lost the other set to Burlington 25-9.
The Fillies began the day taking on Marmaton Valley. The Wildcats won the first set, 25-19, and the second set, 25-10.
Iola’s next opponent was Frontenac and Frontenac topped the Fillies 25-7, 25-12.
Without any rest between matches, Iola was right back on the floor against eventual tournament champs Paola. Paola won 25-14, 25-8.
The Fillies other match was against Central Heights. Central Heights won 25-13, 25-17.
MARMATON VALLEY
The Wildcats finished the tournament at 2-2-1.
In addition to beating Iola, Marmaton Valley beat Central Heights and split with Burlington.
They lost to Frontenac and Paola.
