Teammates greet Dominique Stokes after she hit an inside-the-park home run for the Iola High junior varsity softball team in Tuesday’s 10-0 win over visiting Parsons.

Dominique Stokes had a hop, skip and a jump after crossing home plate Tuesday. The Iola High senior was enjoying her inside-the-park home run for the Fillies’ junior varsity.
Iola’s junior varsity softball team won two home games — both in three innings — 10-0 and 12-2 over visiting Parson High’s junior varsity.
Breail Thompson, IHS sophomore, recorded a no-hit, shutout in the opener. She walked one and struck out five.
Stokes home run came at the end of a three-run second inning. Iola scored seven runs in the first inning where it took advantage of several walks and Parsons’ errors.
Lauren Tony had a two-run single. Holly Schomaker drove in a run with a base hit. Libby Shay and Emily Ware each had a single. Abby St. Clair had an RBI ground-out in the second inning.
“We were able to run the bases well. The girls were hitting the ball,” said Casey Greenwood, Fillies’ assistant coach.
“Breail pitched well for us in both games. It was good to get two wins after losing to Burlington last week.”
The Fillies produced six runs each in the second and third innings of the second game. The Lady Vikings scored twice in the top of the third.
B. Thompson gave up three hits and walked two in the second contest. She struck out six.
Ware and Schomaker had two singles apiece. Hitting a single each were Toney, B. Thompson, Katie Thompson and Lacy Sigg.
Iola’s junior varsity is back in action April 30 at home against Neodesha.
