FORT SCOTT — Iola High’s junior varsity volleyball team had a rough day at the Fort Scott High JV Invitational Saturday.
After losing their first matches in pool play, the Fillies battled to beat Columbus 25-16, 15-25, 15-11.
“The girls really came alive as a team against Parsons the match before. It was really exciting to watch,” said Casey Greenwood, IHS assistant coach. “That carried over to the Columbus match.”
Iola lost 25-12, 25-18 to Shawnee Mission West to start the day. Parsons got past Iola 25-23, 22-25, 15-8.
The Fillies got the win then lost to Chanute 25-15, 25-18. Greenwood said the Fillies just ran out of gas after a long day of playing.”
For the day, Katie Thompson had 18 kills and three blocks, as well as 11 digs; Celeste Am-brose had 10 kills, one block, 10 digs and three ace serves; Libby Shay had six kills, three blocks and 11 digs; Hannah Barclay had four kills and two blocks; Essence Owens had three kills, two blocks, five digs and four ace serves; Tori Snavely had 32 set assists, eight digs and one ace serve; Alyssa Zimmerman had 19 digs and two ace serves; Keli Lee had six digs.
