Coach Becky Carlson has been filling the Iola junior varsity softball team with confidence all season long and the confidence she has instilled them with has been paying off on the field lately.
“(Coach Carlson) helps us tremendously,” Iola freshman pitcher Mia Aronson said. “She always gives great advice and always knows what she is talking about.”
Iola split with Burlington on Thursday, but their confident bunch of hitters nearly rallied the team for victory twice in game two.
“We always make it exciting,” Carlson said. “Once we get on base, we usually score. We run the bases well.”
After 9-6 victory in game one, the Fillies fell behind 6-0 after three innings.
The middle of the Fillies order awoke the rest of the offense in the fourth inning.
“Once one of us gets pumped up, we all get pumped up so it is a good system.”
Chloe Gardner, Kendra Sprague. Paige Burrough and Siera Snavely led-off the inning and all four reached base.

Burlington answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, and pushed the lead back to six at 10-4, but the Fillies weren’t done yet.
