Iola’s Andrew Garber made quick work of the field in Saturday’s Pioneer League wrestling championships.
The 195-pounder pinned his way to the top of the podium and didn’t allow a single match into the third period.
Garber (29-3) wasn’t the only Mustang who made his way to the podium. Colton Toney, Chandler House and Tavon Blazek each took second place in their respective weight classes to help Iola to a fifth place finish in the league.
The Mustang’s heavyweight Toney (17-9) was able to win his way to the finals with three wins by fall before having the tables turned on him as Santa Fe Trail’s Jake Hastings pinned him in 5 minutes, 2 seconds to take first.
Blazek suffered a similar fate as he pinned his first two opponents before Prairie View’s Jesse Henry pinned him in the final.
Prairie View and Henry took the team-title with 147.5 points.
House was also pinned in the 220-pound final. Bryce Smith of Wellsville was able to top the Iola grappler in just under 4 minutes.
Iola will next be on the mat starting Friday at the Class 4A regional action in Columbus. Regional final rounds are Saturday.
