The Iola High freshman Fillies had a difficult time on offense in their final game of the home tournament on Monday.
But in Iola’s 33-13 loss to Fort Scott, the Fillies were able to boast a couple of individual performances that helped them close the gap late in the contest.
Kassy Shelby, who is the second shortest member of Iola’s freshman squad, played a big part of the Fillies offense. In fact, the 5-foot-5 Shelby made up more than half of Iola’s offensive production on her own.
Shelby finished the game with a team-high 7 points as she sunk three field goals and one free throw. Five of her points came in the final quarter of the game, which were also Iola’s only points of the period.
Madisyn Holloway was also a key part of the Fillies’ offensive attack Monday night as she put up 4 points, 3 of which came on an early three-pointer that kept Iola in the game during the first quarter.
Rounding out the scoring for Iola was Kendra Sprague, who made the Fillies’ first basket of the night to tie the game at 2.
In the tournament’s other girls game, Chanute defeated Frontenac, 31-21. Chanute took first place in Iola’s tournament while Fort Scott earned a second-place finish.
