Versatility is Shelby Greenwood’s strong suit, according to Jessica Peters, Allen County Community College head volleyball coach.
Greenwood, a 2010 Iola High School graduate, signed a letter of intent Thursday to play volleyball at ACCC this fall. Greenwood not only played volleyball for IHS but basketball and softball.
“She came to us after she was done competing in all her high school sports this year,” Peters said. “In her tryout, she showed all the skills we need and the versatility we like to see in players.”
Peters said Greenwood is athletic and can play several positions on the volleyball court. “I don’t know where yet but Shelby will contribute to the team.”
Greenwood played outside hitter for the Fillies last fall and played all the way around the court. She was a 91 percent server with eight ace serves. She was 66 percent in serve-receive and had 21 digs.
Greenwood was third on the Iola team with 69 kills at the net. She also had four solo blocks and three assist blocks.
“Allen County is close to home and gives me an opportunity to continue playing volleyball, which is awesome,” Greenwood said. “I plan to learn a lot because I know it takes a lot to compete at this level.”
Greenwood is the daughter of Lonnie and Cathy Greenwood. She plans to major in criminal justice.
