Harrison, Baker lead golf teams

FREDONIA — Uniontown High’s Veronica Harrison and Yates Center High’s Emily Baker shot 53s for the Fredonia High Invitational golf tournament Thursday.
Harrison and Baker tied with 10th-place Madison Fields of Caney Valley. The two local golfers ended up tied for 11th.
Uniontown’s Eagles finished fourth as a team with a 224. Yates Center’s Wildcats were seventh with a 251.
Sabrena McAnulty and Emily Simpson, both of Uniontown, carded 54s  for the day, tying for 13th. Jordan Mason ended up with 63 and Sara Heinam shot an 81.
“I’m pleased with the way the girls played overall,” said Jason Tourtillott, Uniontown golf coach. “Veronica recovered from taking an 8 on her first hole.”
Yates Center got a 60 from Becky Wendland. Bailie Stuber and Samie Hatch each shot a 69.
Caney Valley won the team title with a 194. Chanute’s Danae Decker was the top medalist with a 42.
The Uniontown High Invitational is Monday at Fort Scott’s Woodland Hill’s Golf Course.
