COLONY — Crest High’s Lady Lancers gave a strong push to win a Three Rivers League game Monday night in front of a home crowd. They came up one point short, losing to Chetopa High’s Hornets 38-37.
Crest trailed 18-16 at halftime then outscored Chetopa 11-9 in the third quarter. The Hornets were able to score one more point, 11-10, than the Lady Lancers in the fourth period.
“The girls showed the hometown crowd a disciplined, patient offense,” said Terry Messenger, Crest head coach. “It was a complete effort by our girls.”
Crest is 0-7 in TRL play and 1-17 overall. It hosts Marais Des Cygnes Valley tonight then St. Paul on Thursday.
Erica Holman fired in 16 points for Crest and Katrina Strickler had 10. Ashley Catt and Kurston Gilliland had four points each and Kolbie Gilliland scored three.
Chetopa’s Darian Pease scored 12 points and Jamie Jackson had 10. Chetopa hit 16 of 25 free throws.
