Chetopa — Crest High’s Lancers fell to 1-4 on the season after a 78-58 loss Friday night to the Chetopa High Hornets.
“Our kids competed and played hard but they just have to be able to play better defense,” said Brent Smith, Lancer head coach.
Leading the Lancers highly active offensive in a losing effort was Kyle Hammond with 217 rushing yards on 26 carries as a runner. Hammond also played quarterback for a portion of the game, racking up 138-passing yards and completed 6 of 9 passes.
In a game without much defense, Trevor Holman lead the team with 16 tackles, Hammond added 13, Clayton Miller and Dylan Sedlak had eight and Jesse Boone had 7.
Next week the Lancers travel to St. Paul for a Friday night matchup against the Indians.
