The Humboldt Cubs wrapped up the Pleasanton Blu-Jay Midseason Tournament Friday evening with a 65-58 win over Olathe-Heritage Christian Academy in the third-place game.

The win moves the Cubs to 7-4 overall this season.

Humboldt trailed 14-8 after the first quarter but a 26-14 second quarter effort gave the Cubs a 34-28 lead at the half.

That six-point advantage expanded by eight throughout the third quarter and despite a 21-14 fourth quarter in favor of HCA, the Cubs managed to hang on and win by seven.

Senior Tucker Hurst and junior Conor Haviland each led the way with 16 points followed by 13 for senior Bo Bigelow.

Senior Caleb Coronado had nine points, senior Teryn Johnson had five points and junior Josh Hull and seniors Kyler Allen and Ryan Sellman each had two points.

Coronado led the rebounding effort with nine followed by six for Haviland. Johnson had seven assists and three steals and Hull had the teams’ lone block.

The Cubs will jump right back into league play on Tuesday by traveling to Leon-Bluestem before returning home on Friday to face Erie.
