Humboldt, Crest, and Marmaton Valley take the course in Iola

Humboldt, Marmaton Valley, and Crest competed at the Doc Stiles Invitational on Tuesday in Iola. This is how the schools fared: 

Humboldt

Humboldt’s number-one runners Drew Wilhite and Elizabeth Melendez sat out the Iola Invitational to save their strength for this weekend’s Rim Rock meet at Lawrence. 

In the one-mile 7th grade race, McKenna Jones  placed fifth with a time of 6:57.53. For the boys, Asher Hart placed 16th (7:01.36), and Jaryt Hess came in 27th (7:55.57.)

In the varsity race, Humboldt still had six Lady Cubs taking the course. Leah Mueller placed 25th (27:25.13), Taylor Korte 30th (29:24.36), Sarah Anderson 31st (29:34.51), Peyten Galloway 32nd (31:04.13), Bri Baker 33rd (31:29.31), and Winter Snyder 34th (32:00.83). 

Competing for the boys were Luke Yokum and Peyton Wallace. Yokum is still finding his form after picking up an illness in the first week of the season. Yokum placed 19th with a time of 20:26.22, and Wallace finished 54th (25:03.70). 

Marmaton Valley

The Wildcats were missing five runners due to various reasons, according to head coach Steve Smith. The Wildcats fielded one runner in the JV girls and varsity races. Mallory Heim earned a medal with her 15th place finish in the JV race with a time of 20:10. In the varsity race, Allison Heim finished 35th, completing the 5k in 34:02. 

Crest

Ursula and Elka Billings skipped the meet in preparation for Rim Rock on Saturday, but Crest still had a presence. For the 7th grade girls, Peyton Schmidt placed sixth with a mile time of 6:57.74 and Halle Klotz came in 16th (7:59.03). For the boys, Gentry McGhee finished 10th (6:32.28), Breakin Jones 20th (7:31.29), and Matt Beckmon (7:35.58). 

For the JV boys, Victor Susko participated in his second meet as a Lancer. Susko is new to Colony, and is a foreign exchange student from Brazil. Susko finished 51st with a time of 26:38.
