Humboldt girls place in top-two at league for the first-time since 1998

It had been 20 years since the Humboldt girls track and field team finished in the top-two at the Tri-Valley league meet. On Thursday, that two-decade streak was broken when the Lady Cubs turned in a second-place Tri-Valley finish at the league meet at Caney Valley.

Kaylie Johnson led the way with the only first-place finishes for the Humboldt girls. Johnson finished on top in the long jump with a distance of 16’7” and she set a new personal and school record in the triple jump with a distance of 35’8”.

Lizzie Myers finished second in the high jump with a personal record height of 5’0” and second in the 800 with a time of 2:45.79. She also finished fifth in the javelin (97’2”).

Savanna Puckett finished second in the 200 (27.53) and sixth in the javelin (94’10”).

Britnee Works finished third in the high jump (4’10”) and fifth in the pole vault (6’0”). Jessica Myers finished third in the long jump with a distance of 15’0.5” and sixth in the 400 (1:08.24).

Bailey Goodell finished fourth in the long jump (15’.5”) and the 400 (1:07.47). Brianna Baker finished fourth in the 3200 (15.42) and sixth in the 800 (3:06.11). Alayna Johnson finished sixth in the discus with a personal record distance of 98’2.25”. She also finished sixth in the shot put (28’9”).

The 4×400 team of Kaylie Johnson, Zoey Wilson, Jessica Myers and Puckett finished second with a time of 4:26.47 and the 4×800 team of Jessica Myers, Works, Wilson and Goodell finished second with a time of 11:58.66.

THE HUMBOLDT

boys finished third and were led by a first-place finished in the shot put (42’4”) and the discus (145’11.5” — a personal best) by Tucker Hurst. He also finished second in the javelin (140’2”).

Colin Gillespie finished first in the high jump with a jump of 6’2”. Gillespie narrowly missed out on clearing the bar at 6’5” which would have been a school record.

He also finished second in the triple jump (41’.25” — a personal record) and third in the 300-meter hurdles (44.86).

Luke Yokum finished second in the 1600 with a personal record time of 5:09.21. Caleb Coronado finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:13.98. Zach Korte finished fourth in the discus (128’4”) while Noah Johnson finished fifth (118’0.5”).

Thane Meadows finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 19.98, Seth Barlow finished sixth in the 1600 with a personal record time of 5:18.59 and Drake Harrington finished sixth in the 800 (2:17.87).

The Cubs will head to Fredonia on Friday for the 3A regional meet.
