Humboldt rolls past YC, Erie

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s volleyball team picked up a pair of wins Tuesday against a pair of old rivals.
The Lady Cubs swept past visiting Yates Center, 25-8, 25-20, and Erie, 25-18, 25-19.
“We had a good night,” Humboldt coach Stephanie Splechter said. “We came out strong against Yates Center in the first set. We had a letdown in the second, but rallied for a big win against a good Erie team.”
Several standouts played prominent roles in the wins.
In the Yates Center match, Sheri Middleton pounded down nine kills with two aces and a block against Yates Center, good for five points. Breanna Kline added six kills, two aces and three points. Kayle Riebel followed with three points, three kills, three aces and six points. Anna Setter had two aces, seven assists and three points. Annalise Whitcomb had two aces, 12 assists, a kill and 15 points. Delaney Umholtz contributed two kills and a point.
The same group starred in the win over Erie.
Middleton had 10 kills, 6.5 blocks, a set assist, a dig and four points. Kline had four kills, an ace, three digs, 1.5 blocks and a point. Riebel delivered three kills with a block and four digs to go with eight points. Setter had a kill, five assists, one dig and a point. Umholtz had a kill, an ace and five points. Whitcomb had eight points, seven assists and a dig.
Humboldt returns home Tuesday to host Caney Valley and Neodesha.
