EUREKA — Humboldt High’s Courtney Richey continued her season for the ages Friday, allowing only one hit over both games of a doubleheader, while pounding a home run for an estimated 260 feet against Eureka.

The Lady Cubs improved their record to 18-0 with a 14-1 and 16-0 sweep past the Tornadoes.

Humboldt broke open a 1-1 tie in the first game with an eighth-run third. Humboldt tacked on a run in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Richey allowed one hit in her five innings of work.

Meanwhile, Breanna Kline had three singles, two stolen bases and an RBI. Kayle Riebel had two singles, two doubles and two RBIs. Richey had a single and double and three RBIs. Delaney Umholtz had four hits, including a triple, with three stolen bases and two RBIs. Jaci Ross singled with an RBI. Kasey Beeman had a double and two RBIs.

Richey pitched all four innings of the second game, allowing just one walk with eight strikeouts. Meanwhile, every Lady Cub starter had a hit. Kline had two singles, a triple, a stolen base and two RBIs. Riebel had a single, double and two RBIs. Richey added two singles to her home run with three RBIs. Umholtz had three singles and two stolen bases. Ross and Hannah Hulett both had a single and RBI. Beeman had a single, double and two RBIs. Makaylah McCall had two singles, a double and two RBIs. Mallory Roush and Haley Riebel each singled.


IN BASEBALL action, Humboldt rolled to a 20-0 win over Eureka in the opener, before rallying from a 6-2 deficit to win, 14-8.

Like the softball team, Humboldt’s baseball squad remains perfect at 18-0.

Individual statistics for the baseball doubleheader were unavailable.
