The Cubs baseball team continued to roll along Thursday when it picked up a pair of home wins to run its record to 14-0 on the season.

It only took the Cubs a combined seven innings to dispatch the Eagles. They won game one 15-0 in four innings and took game two 16-0 in three innings.

Jake Haviland took the mound in game one and struck out six Eagles and allowed only three hits in his three innings. Rayce Hoepker pitched a perfect fourth inning to end the game.

“All of our pitchers threw well and we played good defense behind them,” Humboldt coach Mike Miller said.

Corey Whitcomb was the offensive star of the game. The senior went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two runs batted in.

“We started off a little slow at the plate, but got better as the game went along,” Miller said. “We really need to keep our bats going with regionals right around the corner.”

The Cubs have four games next week before their playoff journey begins.

GAME TWO

After the lopsided win in game one, Miller extended his pitching rotation a little fuarther in game two. He started Daylon Splane and brought Evan Gean in to finish the game in the third inning.

“We were able to throw several pitchers, which is good because we haven’t played in so long,” Miller said.

The two pitchers combined to just allow one hit as they recorded eight outs before the game was called due to the run-rule.

Eight of the nine Humboldt batters who stepped to the plate scored a run with Hoepker, Haviland and Rhett Smith each crossing the plate three times.

Haviland also hit a home run in game two.
