FORT SCOTT — Iola Middle School’s girls struggled in road games at Fort Scott Thursday.
Iola’s eighth-grade A team trailed 10-0 after one period, and rebounded after that but couldn’t threaten the host Tigers in a 28-8 loss.
“We got down so much early on, but over the last three quarters, the girls did a much better job and gave us something to build on,” Ponies head coach Marty Taylor said.
Colbi Riley scored all eight of the Ponies’ points to go with nine rebounds. Karly McGuffin added eight boards.
The seventh-grade A team dropped a 28-10 decision.
“Our effort at times wasn’t where it needed to be,” Taylor said. “But the more time these girls get on the floor, the better they will get.”
Piper Moore led the way with six points and four rebounds. Madisyn Holloway and Kendra Sprague added two points and four rebounds apiece.
The eighth-grade B team fell 18-13. Makayla Bycroft scored eight points, Scout Rush three and Carly Cescon two.
The seventh-grade B team dropped a 6-2 decision. Mia Aronson scored the two points.
Iola hosts Roosevelt Middle School of Coffeyville Monday. The first game tips off at 3:30 p.m.
