Iola Middle School held its first volleyball jamboree of the 2010 season Thursday. The intrasquad matches consisted of five seventh-grade teams and one eighth-grade team.
Nine games were played with a 12-minute clock running instead of playing the traditional matches.
Team 1 was the overall winner, winning three games 22-16 over Team 6, 23-21 over Team 5 and 33-10 over Team 6.
Members of Team 1 were Taylor Heslop, Mikaela Platt, Elise Wolf, Allyson Hobbs, Klair Vogel, Brittney Stanturf and Morgan Wilson.
“Consistent serving was the key to Team 1’s success. Elise Wolf put together several strings of excellent serves, said Muffy Fehr, IMS seventh-grade coach. “Taylor Heslop covered the court well defensively for the squad.”
Other outstanding play was shown by Blaze Hobbs of Team 3, Courtney Richey, Caitlyn Dreher and Abigail Taylor of Team 5, Emily McKarnin of Team 4. The eighth-grade Team 6 was led by Lauren Hunt with 16 good serves in a row.
Iola Middle School hosts Columbus Tuesday.
