Iola A Indians split doubleheader at Eureka

EUREKA — Errors proved costly for Iola American Legion’s A Indians Wednesday.

Four errors by the Indians helped host Eureka win 11-8 in the opening game. Iola was up 4-1 when Eureka scored five runs in the third then had back-to-back three-run innings.

The Indians came back with four runs in the fifth to get it to 9-8. Grayson Pearish worked 4 1/3 innings for Iola and took the loss. He was charged with 10 runs on 10 hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Trent Latta pitched 1 2/3 innings, He gave up one run on two hits and one walk.

Latta and Pearish each had three singles in the game. Caleb Vanatta doubled. Hitting a single each were Drew Faulhaber, Derrick Weir and Shae Beasley.

The Indians had three errors in the second game but came out with a 12-6 win. They used a seven-run third to wipe out a 5-1 deficit.

Up 8-6, Iola scored four runs in the fourth, three on a home run by Weir, who also had a single in the game. Latta and Vanatta had two singles each.

Aaron Barclay went the distance on the mound for Iola. He allowed five hits, walked four and struck out seven.

Brock Peters tripled and Pearish doubled. Barclay and Eric Heffern had a single apiece.

Iola A (10-3) plays at Baldwin Saturday.
