Iola AA Indians win first two in tourney

BALDWIN — Iola American Legion Post 15’s AA Indians shut out their first two opponents in the 2011 Kansas Amateur Baseball Association (KABA) League Tournament.
On Thursday, the Indians handled Chanute then Baldwin with identical 10-0 victories. The wins put the Indians in the winners bracket final against Ottawa late Friday afternoon.
The winner of Iola-Ottawa game plays in the championship game today at 5:30 at the Baldwin Ball Complex in Baldwin, which is hosting the tournament.
The loser of the Iola-Ottawa game drops to the losers bracket final, at 2 o’clock today.
Other scores from Thursday were: Ottawa 8, Wellsville 6; Baldwin 10, Paola 4; Wellsville 9, Osawatomie 8; Paola 16, Chanute 8. Osawatomie and Chanute were eliminated Thursday from the double-elimination tournament.
Friday’s action had Baldwin taking on Wellsville and Burlington playing Paola in the losers bracket.
The winners of those games played Friday night to reach today’s losers bracket final.
There were no details on the first two Iola games available to the Register. A complete report on the tournament will be in Monday’s Register.
The Iola AA team moves into American Legion zone tournament play in Garnett starting Monday. No more information is available until Monday.
