GARNETT — Iola High’s golf team continues to rack up wins before heading to its Class 4A Regional in Osawatomie this upcoming Monday. On Tuesday, the Mustangs won the Pioneer League Golf Tournament hosted by Anderson County.
With a team score of 297, the varsity squad edged out Ottawa by eight strokes to win the title. They were the only team to finish below 300 strokes as a team. The win pushes the team’s winning streak to eight in a row, and keeps them undefeated on the season.
Kaden Macha shot a 73 for third place individually. Matt Jacobs followed with a 74 in fourth place. Drake Dieker also shot a 74 and took sixth place. Shane Walden finished with a 76 and in 10th. Adam Peterson rounded out Iola in 21st place with an 83.
The win gave Iola back-to-back league titles. Monday’s Class 4A Regional gives the team a chance to qualify for state.
One of the positives going into Monday’s tournament is the team is familiar with the competition. Opponents include Santa Fe Trail, Fort Scott, Anderson County, Prairie View, Louisburg, Osawatomie, Ottawa, Paola and Spring Hill.
