Morgan Smith has been studying dance since she was 5. So it was a natural progression for the Iola High senior to go from being a cheerleader in high school to a dance team member at the college level.
Smith earned a scholarship for the ACCC Fire Starters Dance Team after ACCC dance and cheer coach Mindy Covey saw Smith in an open tryout. Smith signed a letter of intent Thursday to be a member of the dance team.
“I’ve been dancing all my life. I’m interested in becoming a dental hygentis as a career but before I do that I’d like a foundation of general college courses,” Smith said.
“So I decided to go to Allen County next year. While I’m going to school I’d like to stay involved with an activity and the dance team seemed to be right for me.”
Smith has been a cheerleader at Iola High for four years. She’s been a part of a cheer squad that earned top marks at summer camps throughout those years.
“Morgan came to the tryout and showcased all the skills we want in a freshman dancer,” Covey said. “We’re excited to have her on the team.”
Smith is the daughter of Jodi and Tim Hoffman of Iola.
