CHANUTE — Coach Dana Daugharthy brought only three varsity track members to the Chanute Invitational on Saturday, but was pleased with their results. ON THURSDAY, the JV track team competed at Humboldt in the Crest Invitational.
Emery Driskel continues to improve with each race. Driskel finished in second place in the high hurdles with a time of 15.71 seconds. She also took second in the intermediate hurdles in 49.07 seconds.
Daugharthy said Driskel is edging closer to Iola’s high hurdle record set by Kendra Taiclet in 2012. The time Driskel will have to beat is 15.60 seconds, just .11 seconds faster than Driskel.
Jo Lohman took on the 1600-meter run and finished in 6:37 for fifth place.
“I have been very pleased with her effort and performance this year,” Daugharthy said. “She has gotten better and better this year.”
Travis Hermstein didn’t have his best performance in the pole vault according to Daugharthy. He vaulted 9’0” for fifth place. But, Daugharthy was pleased with how Hermstein ran. Hermstein ran in the 800m and 1600m events.
For the boys, Ethan Holloway took sixth in the 1600m run in 5:27. It was his personal best by 10 seconds.
Chase Regehr set a personal best in three events. He placed third in the 400m run in 55.1 seconds. He threw a personal best in the javelin. For the 4x800m relay team, he ran his leg in a personal best 2:10.
Speaking of the 4x800m relay team, they finished in second with a time of 9:41.60. The team includes Regehr, Holloway, Jonathan Rodewald and Nathan Sprague.
For the long jump, Brice Aiello hit the 18’ mark for the first time since the first meet of the season. He finished in sixth place with a jump of 18’2 1/2”.
Darius Greenawalt finished in second in the triple jump with a leap of 37’11”. He continues to improve from meet to meet.
Olivia Taylor led the girls with a second place finish in the 3200m run. She finished the race in 13:18, it was a personal best and she missed out on first by one second.
Carly Cescon took fourth in the 800m run in 2:47. She also placed sixth in the 400m run with a time of 1:11. Daugharthy said she placed in each event just two weeks ago and is pleased with her potential going forward.
The 4x800m relay team of Cescon, Taylor, Madison Carlin and Erin Klubek placed third in 11:47.
The JV team hosts a meet at 3:30 p.m. today. Iola’s varsity team hosts the Pioneer League Meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
