LAWRENCE — Iola High senior Ethan Fulton didn’t have as smooth of a trip through the 110-meter high hurdles Friday as he did last May winning the Kansas Class 4A state championship race.
But it was good enough to qualify him  for today’s high school 110-meter high hurdle final at the 2010 KU Relays. Iola High head track coach Marvin Smith reported to the Register that Ethan Fulton won his heat race Friday at KU’s Memorial Stadium.
“He ran the race in 15.37 seconds. He hit the ninth and 10th hurdle but had enough balance at the end to sprint to the finish to win the race,” Smith said.
The final is set for 1:30 this afternoon.
Aaron Fulton, also a senior, was 34th in the hurdle preliminaries. He also took 17th in the high school boys’ javelin with a throw of 158 feet, 8 inches.
Maggie Wilson, a junior, placed 14th in the high school girls’ pole vault Friday. She cleared 10 feet.
The rest of the Iola High varsity track team was to have competed in the Independence High Invitational Friday. Wet weather made Independence postpone the meet. No rescheduled date was known.
