Adam Kauth will be seeing double after signing his letter of intent to attend Bethel College as a two-sport athlete and double-major.
Kauth will run 110-meter high hurdles and 400-meter intermediate hurdles for the track team in the spring. He will play wide receiver for the football team in the fall.
“It will be quite challenging to keep up with both,” Kauth said. “Both will demand and require a lot of time. College sports will be the next-level of sports because everyone is more dedicated to college athletics.”
Kauth ran 110-meter high hurdles, 300-meter intermediate hurdles, 4×4 relay and high jump on the high school track team. He played wing back, a dual position between running back and wide receiver on the football team.
Kent Allshouse, Bethel’s athletic director and Kauth’s new track coach, believes that Kauth is a good representation of the type of students Bethel considers.
“He’s the epitome of the type of student athlete that Bethel likes to get,” Allshouse said. “Successful in the classroom, successful on the track. He’s hard working. We’re going to get a two-sport athlete from him, football and track. As an old football coach and current track coach, I’m pretty pumped up about that. I’m the athletic director as well, so I’ll get to follow him all the way through.”
Kauth was one of four valedictorians for Iola High School this year. He plans on double-majoring in computer science and business administration.
“I chose Bethel for a couple reasons,” Kauth said. “They have strong academics at their school. Also, I wasn’t finished with sports yet, so I wanted to pursue sports in both football and track.”
