High School Softball: Lady Lions 13, Lady Wildcats 3
LEON Yates Center ended its softball season Tuesday in the semifinal round of the 2-1A regional tournament in Leon, falling to two-seed host and eventual regional champion, Leon-Bluestem, 13-3.
The Lady Cats, who went into the tournament as the third seed, end their season with a 13-9 record.
The Lady Lions led things off with a five-run first inning and added two more in the both second and third innings to take a 9-0 lead.
Yates Center scratched in runs in the fourth and fifth, scoring three times to cut Bluestems lead to six.
The Lady Lions jumped right back up, though, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth and another two in the bottom of the sixth to put Bluestem up 13-3 and trigger the run-rule.
Starter Madelynn Collins was saddled with the loss despite the fact that only one out of the 13 Bluestem runs were earned. The Lady Lions got seven hits and four walks off Collins. She struck out five.
The Lady Cats were plagued by errors, committing nine throughout the game.
Emma Chrisman recorded Yates Centers lone hit.
Head coach Abbie Collins will return nearly her entire team next year after graduating just two seniors from this season (Katelynn Jones and Carli Masairczyk).
