Humboldt volleyball may have made the breakthrough that they’ve been looking for all season Tuesday night when they traveled to Cherryvale and beat both the Lady Chargers and Eureka.

The wins move them to 18-9 overall and put them in a good position with sub-state waiting next week.

“We finally put everything together on the court and played great volleyball,” head coach Terry Meadows said. “Our serves and passing were much better and the girls played with great heart and determination and that is what we need at this point in the season.  I could not be happier for them right now.”

Humboldt took down Eureka in three sets 25-15, 20-25 and 25-15.

Eureka came into the match as the second-best team in the league and left just a half-game ahead of Humboldt at 19-10. Aricah McCall was on target, as usual, gathering 13 kills, four aces and 11 digs.

Camrie Farran had six kills and Kaylie Johnson and Savanna Puckett each had four. Madison Gean led the team in digs with 12 and Alayna Johnson had 32 assists.

The Lady Cubs then swept host-Cherryvale to close out their night 25-10, 25-21.

Kaylie Johnson was the kill leader in this match with nine with McCall following right behind with eight. Johnson also had a team-high two aces to go along with five digs.

Emma Johnson had eight digs and Alayna had 23 assists.

Humboldt’s junior varsity also beat Eureka 16-25, 25-15 and 15-11 and Cherryvale 25-22, 15-25 and 15-12.

The Lady Cubs will have one more tournament and one more match before heading into post-season play. They’ll travel to Neodesha for their tournament on Saturday before hosting Fredonia and Leon-Bluestem at home for senior night next Tuesday.
