HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs split a Tri-Valley League doubleheader Tuesday to open the 2011 softball season.
The Lady Cubs used a four-run sixth to win the first game 4-3. Neodesha High’s Bluestreaks led 1-0, then scored twice in the top of the sixth for a 3-0 lead.
Melissa Davidson was the winning pitcher, giving up eight hits, walking two and striking out one.
Julie Seibert had two singles for Humboldt. Hannah McCall tripled. Taylyn Wells, Kylee Carson, Davidson and Kindahl Young each had a single.
“We had two key double plays to get us out of innings,” said Brad Piley, Lady Cub head coach.
Neodesha won 15-9 in the second game. Davidson took the loss, allowing 19 hits and walking seven.
Carlson had two doubles and two singles and Haley Riebel hit two doubles and a single. Seibert had two singles. Wells and Morgan Morris each doubled. McCall had a single and a double. Taylor Fitzmaurice, Davidson and Young each had a single.
