Lady Wildcats put up strong showing at home JV tournament

MORAN — The Marmaton Valley junior varsity volleyball squad took second in their home invitational Saturday.
The Lady Wildcats went 3-2  on the day with losses coming against both Humboldt teams.
Marmaton Valley opened the day with a 2-0 over Central Heights (15-7, 15-9).
Kaylee Becker recorded two aces while Mykayla Ard led the team with two kills. Sarah Spillman was a leader defensively with three digs.
Next, the Wildcats faced Southern Coffey County, beating the Lady Titans in two sets (15-14, 15-7).
Julianna Sprague and Rachel Schaffer both hit two kills while Schaffer was active at the net, grabbing two blocks.  Becker grabbed two more aces and Spillman added two digs to her day.
The final stop in the Lady Wildcats’ early domination was a hard-fought win over Northeast, 16-14, 15-13.
Haylee Meiwes got in on the action, serving up two aces, while Kennadee Redburn was able to hold serve for seven consecutive serves. Ard led her team with three kills.
Marmaton Valley finally got tripped up versus the Humboldt C-team, splitting the first two sets, falling 15-11 and winning 15-8, before narrowly 15-13 in the third set.
Ard had a great match as she put away nine kills while Beck added two aces to go along with her two kills.
Schaffer recorded two blocks and Sprague got three assists.
With a 3-1 record, the Lady Wildcats advanced on to face the undefeated Humboldt junior varsity team in the championship match.
The Lady Cubs proved to be two much as Marmaton Valley fell 15-8 and 15-11.
Shaffer had two kills and Kari Shadden scrounged up five digs in the loss.
Marmaton Valley’s varsity squad is in action today versus St. Paul.
