Two of Allen Community College’s top scorers from this season have decided where their careers will continue next season.
Leading scorer Da’Ron Mims will go to traditional Division-II powerhouse Angelo State University.
“It is a great opportunity for him,” Allen coach Andy Shaw said. “One thing he was really excited about was having a great chance to win.”
Last season’s 17-12 record is the worst mark the Rams have posted in the last four seasons and the team loses its top four scorers, paving the way for Mims to be a key player.
“He made a leap this season,” Shaw said. “He was a good player last season, but came back as a sophomore and just got better. He became our go-to guy… The thing about Da’Ron is that he always competes and never took a night off.”
Jah-Kobe Womack, the Red Devils’ super-sub this season and a St. Louis, Mo., native will be returning home to Quincy University, which is two hours north of St. Louis.
“I’m ecstatic for Jah-Kobe to have that chance,” Shaw said.
Quincy University’s Hawks are coming off of a 25-7 season and losing all five of its starters, allowing Womack the opportunity to step into a big role for them.
“Jah-Kobe is a guy that is capable of putting up big numbers any given night,” Shaw said. “He figured out the college game in the transition from his freshman year to his sophomore year. He just got better and better.”
